A Fun Day for Max

The sun shines on the monkey house. Max wakes up and stretches his arms.

He sees the blue sky above. He sees the green leaves on the trees.

"Come play, Max!" calls Pip. Pip is a very fast monkey.

Max jumps down from his bed of hay. He lands on the ground with a soft thud.

The two friends run to the big rocks. They like to play hide and seek.

Max hides under a large gray rock. He stays very still and quiet.

Pip looks high and Pip looks low. He cannot find Max anywhere.

Then Max lets out a little laugh. Pip hears him and finds the spot.

"I found you!" Pip says happily. They both giggle and jump up and down.

Now they want to climb the big wall. The wall has many bumps to hold onto.

Max is very good at climbing. He uses his hands and his feet.

He also uses his long tail to help. Max reaches the top and looks around.

He can see the tall giraffes nearby. He can see the big gray elephants too.

"Look at the people!" Max points. Children wave at the funny monkeys.

Max waves back with one hand. The children laugh and clap for him.

Suddenly, they hear a loud bell. That bell means it is lunch time.

Max and Pip race to the feeding area. They see Leo the zookeeper walking fast.

Leo carries a bag of fresh fruit. He has apples, grapes, and bananas.

Leo puts the fruit on the flat rocks. The monkeys gather around the food.

Max picks out a big yellow banana. It is his favorite thing to eat.

He sits on a branch to eat his lunch. He shares some grapes with his mom.

The fruit is sweet and cold. It makes Max feel very strong.

After lunch, the sun is very hot. All the monkeys want to take a nap.

Max finds a shady spot under a leaf. The leaf is as big as an umbrella.

He curls up into a small ball. The wind blows softly through the trees.

Max feels safe in his zoo home. He falls asleep with a happy heart.
