A Visitor in the Snow
Snow fell soft and white outside Room Two. It was the last day before the Christmas break.
The children made paper bells and stars. Mr. Green helped them tape the stars high.
Tap, tap, tap! A soft sound came from the glass door.
Leo looked up from his desk. A young reindeer stood in the cold snow!
The deer had brown fur and large, round eyes. It shook snow off its little tail.
"Look!" whispered Mia. The class was very quiet and still.
The deer looked cold and hungry. It sniffed at the cold window pane.
"We can help," said Leo in a soft voice. "Reindeer like crisp apples and carrots," said Mia.
Mr. Green nodded with a smile. "Let us work as a team," he said.
Leo got three red apples from his lunch bag. Mia found two long orange carrots.
Sam opened the heavy door very slowly. Nobody made a loud sound.
Together, the children put the food on a wooden bench. They stepped back inside Room Two.
The reindeer walked up to the bench. Crunch, crunch, went the red apples.
The gentle deer looked at the children. It gave a happy shake of its ears.
Then it ran back into the quiet woods. The class smiled and cheered in a soft whisper.
