All About Doodle Dogs

Have you ever seen a dog that looks like a fluffy teddy bear? You might be looking at a doodle dog! Doodles are popular pets all over the world.
A doodle is a hybrid dog. This means it is a mix of two different dog breeds. One parent is almost always a poodle. The other parent can be a Labrador Retriever, a Golden Retriever, or another kind of dog. A Labradoodle is a mix of a Labrador and a poodle. A Goldendoodle is a mix of a Golden Retriever and a poodle.
The story of doodles began in Australia in 1989. A man named Wally Conron wanted to help a woman who could not see well. She needed a guide dog. However, her husband had bad allergies to dogs. Wally mixed a poodle with a Labrador. Poodles do not shed much fur. The new puppy was gentle, smart, and did not make the husband sneeze! Wally named the mix a Labradoodle.
Many people think doodle dogs never cause sneezing. But people with allergies are usually reacting to dander. Dander is tiny flakes of skin that all dogs have. Also, every puppy in a litter can be different. Some have curly fur, while others have straight or wavy hair.
Doodles need lots of love and care. Their soft coats need regular grooming. Owners must brush their dog often so the curly hair does not get knotted. With daily walks and gentle care, these sweet dogs make playful family friends.
