NARRATOR: Welcome to Grand Rapids, a lively city located in western Michigan. Today, two students are exploring some of the most famous sights in the area.
MAYA: Look at this massive bronze horse statue! It is huge!
SAM: That is the American Horse sculpture at Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park. It stands twenty-four feet tall!
NARRATOR: Frederik Meijer Gardens is known around the world. It combines beautiful natural plants and tropical conservatories with incredible outdoor artwork.
MAYA: I love how visitors can walk along peaceful trails and discover modern sculptures hidden among the trees and flowers.
SAM: Grand Rapids is famous for creativity. Every year, artists from across the globe bring their artwork here for a huge citywide public event called ArtPrize.
NARRATOR: Long ago, Grand Rapids earned the nickname "Furniture City" because of its busy woodworking factories along the river. Today, the city is equally famous for its local history, historic bridges, and vibrant arts scene.
MAYA: The Grand River flows right through the center of downtown. People used to float logs down the river to power the old furniture mills.
SAM: Now, people walk across the blue pedestrian bridges to visit museums, local markets, and historic neighborhoods.
