The Majestic Rocky Mountains
Imagine towering peaks that seem to touch the sky! That's what you'll find in the Rocky Mountains, or the Rockies as some people call them. These mountains stretch over 3,000 miles, from Canada all the way down to New Mexico in the United States.
A Land of Giants
The Rocky Mountains are part of a huge mountain range called the North American Cordillera. They are not as tall as the Himalayas, but they are still very impressive. The highest peak is Mount Elbert in Colorado, standing at a whopping 14,440 feet (4,401 meters) above sea level. That's higher than many airplanes fly!
How Were They Formed?
Millions of years ago, the Earth's plates collided, pushing up the land to create these massive mountains. Think of it like pushing a rug together on the floor â it creates wrinkles! Over time, wind, water, and ice have shaped the Rockies into the jagged peaks and deep valleys we see today.
