Eyes on the Trail: A Conversation with Guide Marcus

Interviewer: Today, we are speaking with Marcus Rivera, a lead trail guide at Whispering Pines Nature Center. Marcus spends his days leading groups of all ages through local forests and wetlands. Marcus, thank you for talking with us. What is the most common mistake people make when they go for a nature walk?
Marcus Rivera: Thanks for having me! The biggest mistake is simply moving too fast. Many hikers treat a trail like a racetrack. They focus entirely on reaching the end of the path or hitting a certain step count. When you march along without pausing, you miss the quiet, amazing lives unfolding right beside your boots. Nature rarely advertises itself with bright neon signs. It whispers, so you have to slow down your pace to notice it.
Interviewer: Many people think they need to visit a giant national park or see a bear to experience real wildlife. Is that true?
