How to Build a Paper Vocabulary Flip Book

A vocabulary flip book is a handy study tool that helps you remember new words and their meanings. By hiding the definitions under paper flaps, you can test your memory during independent study time. Follow these steps to build your own sturdy four-flap book.
Materials You Will Need
- One standard sheet of white or colored paper (8.5 by 11 inches)
- One pair of child-safe scissors
- One pencil or pen
- Colored pencils, crayons, or markers
- A ruler (optional, but helpful for straight lines)
Step 1: Fold the Paper in Half Longways
Place your paper flat on your desk so it looks wide, like a placemat. Take the bottom long edge of the paper and lift it up to meet the top long edge. Line up the corners carefully so they match. Press your thumb firmly along the folded edge to create a sharp crease. Crafters often call this a "hot dog fold" because the paper becomes long and narrow. When you finish, keep the paper folded with the crease pointing away from you and the open edges pointing toward your body.
