Welcome to our classroom library, known as the Room 204 Book Hub. Our collection contains graphic novels, chapter books, informational texts, and poetry. To ensure that everyone has equal access to these resources and that our books stay in great condition all year, every student must follow this checkout and return system.

Goal

Borrow and return books independently while keeping our shared shelves organized and fair for all readers.

Materials Needed

  • Your personalized cardboard shelf marker (found in the blue organizer bin)
  • A pencil
  • The Book Hub binder on the check-out table
  • Sticky notes (yellow for bookmarks, pink for reservations)

Step 1: Browsing and Choosing a Book

Walk quietly to the bookshelf area during independent reading time or morning check-in. Before pulling a volume from the shelf, grab your personalized shelf marker. Slide the marker directly into the empty space where the book was resting. This acts as a placeholder so you can easily return the book to its proper spot if you decide not to keep it. You may preview a book by reading the front blurb and the first two pages. Once you choose your selection, remove your shelf marker and return it to the blue bin.
