My Alaskan Adventure
June 14th
Fairbanks, Alaska! I can't believe I'm finally here. The plane ride was long, but looking out the window at the mountains covered in snow made it worth it. Our little cabin is so cozy, and it smells like pine trees.
June 15th
Today, we went on a hike near a river. The water was so clear, I could see every rock at the bottom. The guide, a nice lady named Sarah, told us about the different kinds of trees and plants. She even showed us some bear tracks! I was a little scared, but also super excited. We didn't see any bears, thankfully, but Sarah said they like to come to the river to catch salmon. We saw lots of wildflowers – yellow, purple, and red – it was like walking through a painting.
June 16th
We visited the University of Alaska Fairbanks today. They have a museum with bones of woolly mammoths! Can you believe how big they were? After the museum, we walked around the campus, which had amazing views of the mountains. I even learned that it is still light out close to midnight!
June 17th
Today was my favorite day so far. We went to a dog sledding camp. Even though there wasn't any snow, they had sleds with wheels. The dogs were so strong and loved to run! The musher, a friendly man with a big beard, told us all about how they train the dogs. I got to ride on the sled, and it was so much fun! I felt like I was flying through the forest.
June 18th
We went gold panning! It was harder than it looks. We scooped up gravel from a stream and swished it around in a pan, hoping to find some gold. I didn't find any big nuggets, but I did find some tiny flakes. It was still cool to think that I was finding real gold, like the miners from long ago.
June 19th
Today, we went to a place called the Arctic Circle. It’s so far north! It was a long drive, but we saw lots of amazing scenery. We even saw a moose! It was huge and had big antlers. We took lots of pictures. Sarah taught us all about the special plants and animals that live there. The sun barely dips below the horizon. It’s so strange!
June 20th
Time to pack up and head home. I am so sad to leave Alaska, but I will never forget this amazing adventure. I've seen so many incredible things. I can’t wait to tell all my friends about it.
