Dear Diary,

Tonight was the best night of winter vacation! All day long, I thought I was getting a giant toy robot. I saw a huge box in the hall this morning. I tapped the box with my finger. I could not wait to open it tonight.

After dinner, Mom and Dad called me into the family room. The big box was open, but there was no robot inside. Instead, the box was full of fluffy blankets, soft pillows, and twinkling fairy lights. My brother Leo had mugs of warm cocoa with tiny marshmallows. My family built a giant blanket fort for all of us to share.

Inside the fort, we packed warm holiday gift bags for the town animal shelter. We folded soft fleece towels and filled little bags with yummy dog treats. My sister drew cute puppy pictures on each tag. Working together inside our glowing tent made my heart feel so happy and warm.

I thought I wanted a loud toy robot tonight. But sharing cocoa and helping sweet animals with my family was much better. Tomorrow we will deliver all the cozy gifts to the shelter. Now I am going to sleep under the twinkle lights!
