Saying Thank You: Is It Always Needed?
It feels good to get a gift. Maybe it's a toy, or a book, or even a yummy treat. When someone gives you a gift, do you have to say thank you? Some people think you always should. Other people think it is ok if you don't like it.
Yes, Always Say Thank You
It is good to say "thank you" because the person who gave you the gift wanted to make you happy. Even if you don't like the gift, they were thinking of you. Saying "thank you" shows you know they were kind. It makes them feel good, too! If you don't say thank you, they might think you don't like them, or that you are not happy with the gift.
Maybe Not Every Time
Sometimes, you get a gift you really don't like. Maybe it's a toy you already have, or a food that you don't like to eat. It can be hard to say "thank you" when you are not happy. If you are sad or upset about the gift, it's okay to talk about it. You can tell the person that you don't like it, but you can also tell them that you know they were trying to be nice. That can be hard to do, but it shows you care.
What Do You Think?
Saying "thank you" is usually a kind thing to do. It shows you are happy that someone thought of you. But it's also okay to talk about how you feel if you don't like the gift. What do you think? Is it important to always say "thank you," or is it okay to not say it sometimes?
