Step into the Spotlight: Classroom Playmakers Workshop

Are you ready to bring your own stories to life? Have you ever imagined acting on a stage, speaking lines you invented, or making an entire audience burst into laughter? Now is your chance to shine! The Classroom Playmakers Workshop is opening its doors to all third-grade students who love to write, imagine, and perform.
Writing a play is exciting because you get to be in charge of the whole world. During this special four-week after-school program, you will work with partners to build short, five-minute plays from scratch. You do not need any previous theater experience to join. All you need is an open mind, your favorite ideas, and a willingness to try something new.
What You Will Learn
In our workshop, you will learn the secret ingredients that make a great scene. First, we will practice script writing. A script is a written guide that actors read. It shows who is talking and what they are doing. You will create original characters, write fun dialogue for them to speak, and add stage directions in parentheses to show how the characters should move or sound.
- dialogue:
- The words that characters speak to each other in a play or story.
- script:
- A written guide for actors that includes character names, lines to say, and stage directions.
- project:
- To send your voice outward loudly and clearly so listeners far away can hear.
- props:
- Objects used by actors on stage during a performance.
- rehearse:
- To practice lines and movements before performing in front of an audience.
- showcase:
- A special event where performers present their finished work to an audience.
