The Hallway Art Gallery

A second-grade class transformed a quiet school hallway into a bright art museum today. The students worked all morning to hang their best paintings and drawings on the walls before family visitors arrive for an evening walk-through.
The art project began two weeks ago. The teacher asked each student to make a picture of something that makes them happy. Some children used watercolors to paint sunny parks and tall trees. Other children used colored pencils to draw pets, rocket ships, and cozy houses.
Today, the class had to get the hallway ready for their guests. The students formed small teams to complete the job. One student held each paper steady while a partner pressed blue tape onto the corners. The tape keeps the paper safe on the wall without tearing the edges.
Next, the students added small note cards under each picture. Each card tells the title of the artwork and the artist's name. A few cards also explain how the student made the picture. One boy wrote that he mixed red and yellow paint to create orange leaves for his autumn tree.
Before lunch, the students walked down the hallway to view the full gallery. The long wall used to be plain and bare, but now it is filled with bright color. The students felt proud as they pointed to their work and shared their ideas. They are ready to welcome their families tonight.
