Notice: This is a fictional classroom example.

Do you find yourself doodling funny faces in the margins of your notebook during free time? Do you love action-packed graphic novels, mysterious adventures, or goofy animal tales? If you have an idea in your head, there is a whole world waiting to be drawn. Welcome to the Comic Creators Club, a four-week after-school adventure where fourth graders turn plain white paper into thrilling visual stories!

Creating a comic is more than just sketching pictures. It is the exciting art of pairing artwork with words to tell a complete adventure. In this hands-on workshop, you will explore how professional cartoonists design memorable characters, map out dramatic plots, and make scenes pop off the page. Best of all, you do not need to be an expert artist to participate. Simple stick figures, exaggerated expressions, and creative sound effects can tell a story that is just as powerful as detailed paintings.

What You Will Try

Each weekly meeting gives you time to experiment with new techniques, share ideas, and build your own original four-page comic book mini-series. Over the course of the month, participants will practice:

Glossary
exaggerated:
Made larger, more noticeable, or more dramatic than normal.
silhouettes:
Dark outlines or solid shapes of objects or characters shown against a lighter background.
pacing:
The speed at which a story moves forward and events take place.
constructive:
Helpful and intended to improve or build up an idea.
mini-series:
A short story or set of works presented in several connected parts.
geometric:
Made of simple regular shapes, such as lines, squares, circles, or triangles.
