Update on the Oak Street Community Mural

Subject: Oak Street Mural Project: Progress Report, Shifted Roles, and Next Planning Meeting
Dear Mural Volunteers,
First of all, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who showed up at the Oak Street underpass over the last two weekends. When we first walked into that concrete tunnel, the walls were covered in chipped gray primer, water stains, and layers of old dust. Thanks to your hard work, the transformation is already incredible. Because so many people jumped in with rollers, scrapers, and buckets of soapy water, we are actually ahead of our original timeline in several major areas. However, as the mural begins to take shape, we also need to adjust our plan to make sure our work lasts and everyone stays safe.
Here is a quick summary of what we have successfully completed so far:
- primer:
- A preparatory coating applied to a surface before painting to make sure paint adheres well.
- masonry:
- Stonework, brickwork, or concrete building materials.
- motif:
- A recurring subject, theme, or central design element in an artwork.
- weatherproofing:
- The process of making something resistant to damage from rain, sun, or wind.
- scaffolding:
- A temporary elevated structure that allows workers or painters to reach high areas safely.
- pigments:
- Substances or powders that give color to materials like paints and dyes.
- curing:
- The chemical process of hardening or drying completely over a period of time.
