Your Busy Blood

Your body has a big job to do every single day. It needs to move blood to every part of you. This is called the circulatory system. Think of it like a busy highway in your body. Instead of cars, tiny drops of blood travel through long tubes. These tubes are called blood vessels. They are everywhere in your body from your head to your toes.

Your heart is the engine that moves the blood. It acts like a very strong pump. Every time your heart beats, it pushes blood out. The blood travels in tubes called arteries. These tubes carry fresh air and food to your muscles. Your body needs these things to stay strong and healthy. You can feel your heart working if you put your hand on your chest.

After the blood gives away the fresh air, it must go back. It travels through different tubes called veins. These tubes lead right back to your heart. Then the heart pumps the blood to your lungs to get more air. This trip happens over and over again. It never stops even when you are fast asleep. Your blood is always on the move.

There are also very tiny tubes called capillaries. They are so small you cannot see them without a tool. They connect the arteries and the veins together. They help the blood reach the very smallest parts of your body. This system keeps you growing and gives you energy to play. It is amazing how your body works so hard for you every day.
