Leo was not your typical king of the jungle. While other lions spent their mornings practicing their most terrifying roars to shake the trees, Leo spent his mornings practicing his punchlines. He had a magnificent, golden mane and paws the size of dinner plates, but whenever he opened his mouth to let out a mighty "ROAR," all that came out was a high-pitched "HEE-HEE-HOO!"
The other lions in the pride were quite concerned. "Leo," his father sighed, "a roar should make the gazelles tremble, not make them ask for an encore." Leo tried his best to be serious. He would scrunch up his nose, show his sharp teeth, and take a deep, powerful breath. But just as the sound reached his throat, a tickle would take over, and he would end up rolling on the grass in a fit of giggles.
One afternoon, a group of grumpy hyenas wandered into the pride’s territory. They were known for being rude and causing trouble. The lead lions stepped forward, letting out thunderous roars that echoed across the plains. The hyenas just sneered and moved closer, completely unimpressed. They had heard it all before.
Then, it was Leo’s turn. He stepped forward, trying to look as fierce as possible. He opened his mouth wide, but instead of a roar, a series of rhythmic, honking barks of laughter erupted from his chest. It was so unexpected and so ridiculous that the lead hyena stopped mid-snarl.
Leo couldn't stop. His laughter was infectious. Soon, the other lions started to smirk. Then, one by one, the grumpy hyenas began to chuckle. Within minutes, the entire savanna was ringing with the sound of laughter instead of growls. The hyenas were laughing so hard they forgot why they were being mean in the first place and wandered off to find a snack and a nap.
Leo realized that while he might never have a roar that shook the earth, he had something even more powerful: a laugh that could change the mood of the whole jungle. From that day on, he was known as the King of Comedy, and the pride was the happiest it had ever been.
