Exploring Machu Picchu with Nico the Llama

Hello! My name is Nico. I am a friendly llama with soft, fluffy wool.

I live high in the Andes mountains. My home is in a beautiful country called Peru.

Today, I will show you a special place. It is an ancient city called Machu Picchu.

This city is made of grey stone. People built it high in the clouds a long time ago.

Look at the big, green steps on the hill. These steps are called terraces.

The people of the past made them. They grew delicious crops on these high steps.

We can walk along the dirt paths. The mountain air is cool and fresh.

See the giant stone walls all around us. They do not have any glue or cement to hold them.

The builders cut the stones to fit just right. They look like giant puzzle pieces.

Look down into the deep green valley. A blue river flows fast and far below us.

Sometimes white clouds float right by my nose. It feels like we are walking in the sky!

I love to munch on the sweet green grass here. It is my favorite snack in the whole world.

Thank you for visiting my mountain home. Machu Picchu is a truly wonderful place!
