The Happy Little Pumpkin

Pip was a very small pumpkin. He lived in a big green patch with many pumpkin friends.

Autumn was here. The autumn wind was cool and crisp.

All the pumpkins wanted to be picked for Halloween. The big pumpkins wanted to look scary.

They made spooky faces. They showed big sharp teeth.

"I will make people jump!" said Big Bob. "I will look so scary!" said Tall Tom.

Pip did not want to look scary. He did not like spooky faces at all.

Pip wanted to make people happy. He wanted to have a warm, friendly smile.

One bright morning, a little girl visited the patch. Her name was Mia.

Mia walked past the big pumpkins. "These are too scary for me," Mia said.

Then Mia saw Pip sitting in the soft green grass. Pip looked tiny and bright orange.

Mia picked up Pip with a big smile. "You are the perfect pumpkin!" Mia said.

Mia took Pip home to her cozy house. Her dad helped her carve Pip.

They did not make a scary face. They carved two round eyes and a wide, sweet smile.

Then Mia put a small light inside Pip. Pip began to glow.

Pip felt warm inside. His soft yellow light shone brightly into the cool night.

Children walked by the house. They saw Pip glowing on the porch.

"Look at that happy little pumpkin!" the children cried. Pip felt so glad.

He was the happiest little pumpkin in the whole town.
