The Busy Caterpillar

Have you ever seen a tiny caterpillar? These small bugs crawl on green leaves.

Caterpillars are born from very tiny eggs. They are very hungry when they hatch.

They eat leaves all day long. Eating helps them grow bigger and bigger.

As they grow, their skin gets too tight. They shed their old skin to get new skin.

Some caterpillars are bright green. Others have stripes or soft hairs.

Soon, the caterpillar will stop eating. It makes a hard shell called a chrysalis.

Inside the shell, a big change happens. The caterpillar grows wings.

At last, a beautiful butterfly flies out! It flies away into the bright blue sky.
