The Busy Life of Ants

Have you ever seen a tiny ant? These small bugs live all around us.

They can be red, black, or brown. You can find them in the grass.

Ants are very strong for their size. They can carry big pieces of food.

Sometimes they carry leaves on their backs. They walk in a long, straight line.

Ants do not live alone. They live together in a big group.

This group is called a colony. Thousands of ants can live in one colony.

They build a home under the ground. This home has many rooms and tunnels.

It is called an anthill. Some ants build hills out of dirt.

Every ant in the colony has a job. The queen ant is the mother of all.

She lays many tiny eggs. Other ants look for food.

Some ants protect the nest from danger. They all work together as a team.

Ants talk to each other in a special way. They touch their feelers together.

They also leave a smell trail on the ground. This helps other ants find the food.

Next time you go outside, look down. You might see these busy little workers!
