Teamwork Reading Passages
Explore how a group works together
Teamwork asks people to combine ideas, share tasks, and respond when a plan does not work. These eight reading passages explore cooperation through games, a school garden, a science-fair project, camping, and an imagined Moon mission. The collection includes stories, readers' theater, an email, a diary, and a partner-drawing procedure.
“Winning Together or Alone?” introduces the difference between individual and team play. “Teamwork Triumphs” brings cooperation into a video-game story. Pair the two to ask what someone gains by working with others and what responsibilities come with being part of a group.
Compare roles, instructions, and problem-solving
“The Great Garden Team” uses dialogue to show people contributing to a shared task. A science-fair email communicates a project plan, while “Building Bridges Together” offers a student's reflection on group work. These texts invite readers to compare what teammates say, what they do, and how their contributions fit together.
“Grid Match: The Partner Drawing Challenge” makes communication a practical part of cooperation. One partner describes a hidden pattern, and the other listens and draws. Ask students to explain why the rules allow clarifying questions. Camping and Moon-mission plays offer further fictional situations for tracing a problem and following the team's response.
Choose a reading for your group
Reading labels range from Lower Elementary through 4th grade and Upper Elementary material. Preview each selection before using it with your readers. Choose a short play for assigning speaking roles, an email for studying task coordination, or a procedure for identifying steps that depend on a partner.
