The First Sight
Characters:
- Amani: A young Egyptian girl.
- Father: Amani's father.
(Scene: Amani and her father are traveling towards the Great Pyramids of Giza. The sun is hot, and the sand stretches as far as the eye can see.)
Father: (Wipes his brow) Amani, are you tired, little one?
Amani: (Eyes wide, peering ahead) Not at all, Father! Are we almost there? Are we really going to see them?
Father: (Chuckles) Almost, Amani. Just over that next rise. Be patient.
(Amani bounces with excitement. They walk in silence for a few moments, the only sound the crunch of their sandals on the sand.)
Amani: Father, what if they aren't as big as everyone says?
Father: (Smiling) Oh, they are bigger, Amani. Much, much bigger than you can imagine.
(They reach the top of the rise. Amani gasps.)
Amani: (Voice filled with awe) Oh...
Father: (Putting a hand on her shoulder) What do you think?
Amani: (Staring) They're...they're giants made of stone! They touch the sky! Did people really build these, Father?
Father: (Nodding) Long ago, Amani. Thousands of years ago. The pharaohs built them as tombs. They believed they would need grand homes in the afterlife.
Amani: (Walking closer, cautiously) Can we go closer? Can we touch them?
Father: (Taking her hand) Of course, little one. We can walk right up to them. But be respectful. They are ancient and powerful.
(They walk towards the pyramids. As they get closer, Amani's eyes grow wider. The scale of the structures is almost unbelievable.)
Amani: (Reaching out to touch a stone) It's so...warm. And so old.
Father: (Smiling) The sun has warmed these stones for centuries, Amani. They have seen so much.
Amani: (Looking up, up, up) I can’t even see the top! They're like mountains!
Father: (Nodding) They are a testament to the power and ingenuity of our ancestors, Amani. Remember this day. Remember this sight. It is a part of who we are.
Amani: (Gazing in wonder) I will, Father. I will never forget this. It's...it's magical.
- Pharaohs: The rulers of ancient Egypt.
- Tombs: A place for burying the dead.
- Ancient: Very old; from a long time ago.
