MAPLE SCHOOL — Our school playground has a special new sign. It hangs right over the blue wooden bench near the garden.

Yesterday afternoon, adults and children worked as a team. They put up a bright sign that says "Reading Bench."

Before this week, the bench was hard to notice. Many children ran right past it to play tag.

Now, the new sign shows everyone where to find a calm spot.

Mr. Rivera brought the tools. Three first-grade students helped him hold the sign straight.

"We wanted a peaceful place outside," said Mr. Rivera. "Fresh air makes story time fun."

Next to the bench, there is a red tub with a snap-on lid. The tub holds twelve colorful picture books.

Children can pick a book and sit quietly in the shade. They can read alone or look at pictures with a friend.

When the recess bell rings, students put the books back inside the tub. This keeps the pages clean and dry.

Students say the new sign is a great change. Now everyone knows where to go to enjoy a good book.
