Design Like a Pro: Slide Workshop for Young Creators

Have you ever sat through a classroom presentation where the text was so tiny you had to squint to read it? Have you ever watched a slideshow packed with neon colors, spinning animations, and blurry photos that made your head spin? When it is your turn to share a science project or book report, you want your audience to listen closely, understand your big ideas, and remember your message long after the bell rings.
Great presentations do not happen by accident. They are built with smart planning, thoughtful design, and clear storytelling. Welcome to Slide Studio: Design Like a Pro, an after-school workshop created especially for fifth graders who want to turn ordinary slideshows into memorable visual stories.
What You Will Learn and Practice
During this two-day hands-on workshop, you will not just sit and listen to someone lecture about computers. Instead, you will work on practical design challenges alongside your classmates. Every participant will tackle three core design skills:
- palette:
- A specific selection of colors chosen and used together in design.
- contrast:
- A noticeable difference between light and dark visual elements that makes them stand out.
- visual:
- Related to seeing or sight, such as pictures, charts, and screen displays.
- interactive:
- Involving active participation and two-way engagement rather than passive watching.
- principles:
- Basic rules, ideas, or guidelines that direct how something should be created or done.
- feedback:
- Helpful advice or information given to someone about how to improve their work.
