Meet the Board Game Helper

Note: This is a fictional classroom interview.
Today, we talk with Maya. Maya is a second-grade student who has a special job during Friday math stations. She is the classroom Board Game Helper!
Interviewer: Hello, Maya! What does a board game helper do in our classroom?
Maya: Hi! My main job is to make sure every game is ready for my classmates to play. Before math stations start, I open the game boxes on the shelf. I make sure nothing is broken or missing.
Interviewer: How do you make sure all the pieces are there?
Maya: I use a checklist taped inside each box lid. The list tells me how many items should be inside. For example, our math race game needs four plastic pawns, two number dice, and twenty cards. I count every piece one by one. If one pawn is missing, I look under the tables right away.
Interviewer: Why is counting the pieces so important?
Maya: If a game is missing its dice or cards, partners cannot take turns or finish the game. When everything is in the box, partners can start playing immediately without waiting for extra supplies.
Interviewer: Do you also help students while they are playing?
