Room 4 has a new red basket.

It sits on the floor right beside the classroom door.

The basket is for lost mittens. Cold winter winds make students wear mittens every day.

Sometimes warm mittens fall out of pockets. Now, children drop any found mittens into the red basket.

Anyone who loses a mitten can look inside. It is easy to check the basket on the way out to recess.

A student named Mia shared her thoughts. "I lost my green mitten on Monday," Mia said. "I found it in the basket before lunch."

A student named Sam also spoke about the change. "The basket keeps our room neat," Sam said. "We do not step on dropped mittens anymore."

Winter days are still cold and snowy. The little red basket will stay by the door to help keep hands warm.
