  • Leo: A second-grade student holding two yellow paper tickets and red markers.
  • Maya: A second-grade student sitting at the craft table with a puppet box.

[Setting: The back corner of a second-grade classroom during free project time.]

Leo: (holding up two paper strips) Look, Maya! I finished making the two tickets for our puppet show.

Maya: (smiling) Awesome! Let me see them. Mr. Rivera said we can invite two guests from next door.

Leo: (handing one ticket over) Here is one. I put a giant red star on it. That means it is the best ticket.

Maya: (looking at the ticket, confused) Wait, Leo. What does the big red number say at the top?

Leo: (proudly) That is the number one! It means seat number one.

Maya: Okay, but what about the other ticket? Let me look at that one too.

Leo: (holding up the second ticket) This one has the number two. That means seat number two.

Maya: (frowning a little) But look at the words at the bottom. This ticket says "Front Row." The other ticket says "Back Row."

Leo: (tilting his head) Yeah, so what? One person sits in front, and one sits in back.
