Why Fall Happens
Have you felt the cool air outside? Summer is ending, and fall is here!
Fall is one of the four seasons. It comes after summer and before winter.
Why does fall happen? It happens because of the Earth and the sun.
Earth is our home planet. It travels in a big circle around the sun.
Earth does not stand straight up. It leans a little bit to the side.
In summer, our part of Earth leans toward the sun. The sun shines right on us.
The days are long and warm. Children play outside until late in the evening.
Then, Earth keeps moving on its path. Slowly, our part of Earth leans away from the sun.
Now, the sun is lower in the sky. The days start to get shorter.
The nights grow longer and cooler. We put on cozy jackets and hats.
Less sunlight brings big changes to nature. Trees rest and stop making green food.
Their green leaves turn red, orange, and gold. Soon, the dry leaves fall down to the ground.
Animals feel the cool air, too. Squirrels hide nuts to save for winter.
Birds fly south to warm places. They look for food before the snow comes.
Earth keeps on moving around the sun. Fall brings cool breezes and bright colors every year!
