Use the three columns across a learning sequence

A KWL chart organizes prior knowledge, questions and new learning in one place. Students fill in “Know” and “Wonder” before they explore a topic, then return to “Learned” after reading, discussion or research.

The chart makes curiosity visible and gives a lesson a clear return point. It works as a planning routine or reflection page; it is not a completed topic fact sheet.

Turn student questions into a reading plan

Invite students to write what they already think, then shape broad interests into questions they can investigate. After the lesson, revisit the questions and record what the class found out, including questions that still need an answer.

Pair the organizer with a fact file worksheet when students need to gather details, or browse reading passages to choose a text for the topic.
