Classroom Helper: The Book Corner

Note: This is a fictional classroom interview.
Interviewer: Today we are talking to Leo. Leo is our classroom book helper.
Leo, what is your job in our room?
Leo: I take care of the reading rug.
I make sure our books stay neat and safe.
Interviewer: How do you put the books in order?
Leo: First, I check the colorful bins on the shelf.
Each bin has a picture label.
One bin has animal books. Another bin has space books.
I put each book in the matching bin.
Interviewer: What if a book is on the floor?
Leo: I pick it up gently.
I turn the book so the spine faces out.
The spine is the hard edge that holds the pages together.
Facing the spine out helps kids read the title.
Interviewer: Do you have a favorite picture book to put away?
Leo: Yes! I love the big book about a red tugboat.
It has bright art and shiny blue water.
I always put that book in the front so someone can find it.
Interviewer: Why is your job important to our class?
Leo: When our library is tidy, everyone can find a good story.
It helps us enjoy reading every day.
