Question: What is your job at our school?

Mr. Rivera: I am a school crossing guard.

I help families and children cross the street safely.

Question: Where should students wait when they reach the corner?

Mr. Rivera: Everyone should wait together on the sidewalk curb.

We stay back from the road and keep our feet on the sidewalk.

Question: What do you do before students can cross?

Mr. Rivera: I look in every direction for moving cars.

Then, I step into the street holding my tall, bright stop sign.

Question: How do students know when to walk?

Mr. Rivera: Students keep their eyes on me.

They wait until I look at them, smile, and give my clear signal to walk.

Question: Why is it important to wait for an adult signal?

Mr. Rivera: Grown-ups can see far down the road.

I make sure every car has come to a full stop before anyone steps into the crosswalk.

Question: What should students remember while crossing?

Mr. Rivera: Always walk with your eyes forward.

Never run, and stay close to your friends and family until you reach the other side!
