Winter in the Cabin
December 10, 1882
Dear Diary,
Today the wind is very cold. White snow falls fast outside our small log cabin. My little brother Ben and I sit by the warm fire. Father went to the barn to feed the farm animals. Mother is making hot soup for lunch.
The cold snow is very deep today. We cannot go outside to play. I help Mother stir the big pot of soup. Ben plays with his small wooden toy horse. We can hear the loud wind blow.
Father came back inside from the cold barn. His red hat had white snow on top. He wiped his boots by the wooden door. He said the horses are safe and warm. We were all very glad to hear that.
Tonight we will eat our hot soup together. Mother will read us a sweet bedtime story. We wrap up in thick blankets to stay warm. I am safe inside with my family.
