Mark your calendar for Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and join our community for the annual Maplewood Literacy Day Extravaganza, hosted across the Maplewood Public Library and the Town Green.

From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., our downtown center will transform into an energetic celebration designed specifically for young readers, emerging writers, and imaginative artists. Admission is completely free of charge, and entertaining adventures await around every single corner!

Take a look at the spectacular lineup of events planned for attendees:

• The Community Book Swap: Bring up to five gently used books from your shelves at home and exchange them for exciting, unfamiliar titles at our spacious outdoor tent. You can refresh your personal library without spending a single dime!
• Graphic Novel Studio: Partner up with published cartoonists at 11:00 a.m. to explore visual storytelling. You will learn how to create expressive characters, draft captivating comic panels, and write witty dialogue.
• The Mystery Reader Stage: At the start of every hour, surprise guest performers—including hometown firefighters, professional illustrators, and familiar schoolteachers—will present dramatic read-aloud sessions of timeless childhood stories beneath the shaded pavilion.
• Library Detective Quest: Put your problem-solving abilities to work by solving clever literary riddles scattered throughout the bookshelf aisles. Solve the clues to unlock a hidden chest filled with custom bookmarks, vibrant stickers, and miniature journals.
