Intermediate passages use roughly Grade 4–6 text difficulty. For reading, A2 to B1 is an approximate CEFR orientation. PicoBuddy levels describe the difficulty of the reading material. CEFR references are approximate and do not assess speaking, writing, listening, or a child’s complete English ability. Grade labels describe text difficulty and may not match a child’s age or school year.

Transitioning to Independent Reading
Confident readers are ready to move beyond simple sentence structures. At this intermediate stage, learners engage with longer texts that cover science, history, and nature. They learn to deduce the meaning of unfamiliar words from context clues and explain the deeper motives behind a character's actions. To support this growth, our activities focus on richer vocabulary and comprehension questions that require thoughtful explanations rather than simple recall.
Mastering Intermediate Grammar & Vocabulary
Solidifying grammar is key to writing and speaking with confidence. Our curated resources help learners tackle complex structures, including:
- Sentence mechanics: Managing fragments, run-ons, and coordinating or subordinating conjunctions.
- Word forms: Understanding abstract nouns, modal auxiliaries, and progressive verb tenses.
