AI personalization and learner names
How PicoBuddy personalizes material while reducing personal data sent to AI providers.
Personalization with a saved learner
When an adult selects a saved learner for supported AI features, PicoBuddy can replace known learner names with a temporary placeholder before the request is sent to the AI provider. For example, the provider may receive [[LEARNER_1]] instead of the saved name.
The provider is instructed to keep that placeholder unchanged. PicoBuddy restores the display name after the response returns, so the finished material can still feel personal.
The temporary name mapping is used for that request and is not added as a separate learner profile or analytics property.
Free text still needs care
Automated protection has limits. PicoBuddy can block recognizable email addresses and phone numbers and can replace known saved learner names, but it cannot reliably identify every manually typed name, address, diagnosis, or school record.
Do not enter:
- a child's full name or contact details;
- health, disability, diagnosis, or special-education information;
- school records, student numbers, or private family details;
- passwords, access codes, or other secrets.
