How to turn Pico’s AI help on or off for a child

Control the child AI feature and read back saved conversations from completed attempts.

Updated 8/24/2026 Pico AI help, turn on, turn off, conversation review

Pico's AI help is controlled separately for each child or student. It stays off until you decide to turn it on.

Turn it on

  1. Open My Library and select Children.
  2. Open your child’s or student’s profile, then open Access & AI.
  3. Find Pico's AI help and choose Turn on. The button uses the name saved in the profile.
  4. Read what changes, complete the confirmation shown on screen, and choose Turn it on.

When it is on, your child or student can read a story together with Pico and receive a response to their writing. The card shows that Pico is on for that profile and displays the date it was enabled. The Free plan currently provides two Pico moments per week across the account; paid plans show their current allowance in the app and on Pricing.

Turn it off

Open the same Pico's AI help card, choose Turn off, review the confirmation, and choose Turn it off. Reading, quizzes, games, the Shelf, and practice paths continue to work.

Read back a conversation

Choose the option to read back what your child or student said to Pico. The wording uses their profile name. Open a completed attempt to see the whole conversation saved for that attempt.
